    Empowering future rewilders

Rewilding Europe is excited to announce the launch of a new, free, online rewilding course, which aims to empower future rewilders to deliver real impact. Designed to make rewilding accessible and actionable, “Introduction to Rewilding in Europe” has been created by Rewilding Europe and is hosted by the Open University in the UK. It brings together insights from leading rewilding academics and practitioners across more than 20 European countries. With their new-found knowledge and expertise, those who complete the course won’t just understand rewilding – they’ll be ready to make it happen.

“Rewilding is growing at a phenomenal rate across Europe,” says Amy Duthie, Rewilding Europe’s Head of Upscaling. “Every day we’re asked ‘how can I start rewilding?’ The truth is, everyone can be part of the rewilding movement – from poets to town planners, divers to drivers, ecologists, anthropologists, and economists. We created this course to share our experience and showcase the best rewilding efforts across Europe, so that everyone has the information and inspiration to start rewilding.”

    Cutting-edge, flexible and interactive

No prior knowledge is needed to take the new course – just a passion to learn about rewilding and a willingness to explore. Those who take Introduction to Rewilding in Europe will benefit from interactive content, flexible study, real-world examples, and recognition – with module badges and a certificate on course completion.

Across eight modules – which are packed with clear, engaging, highly relevant content from the cutting-edge of rewilding theory and practice – those who take the course will:

    • View on Pettorano Sul Gizio

Discover why wilder nature is vital for both people and nature

    • Isak Edström collecting freshwater pearl mussels Margaritifera margaritifera before restoration work starts

Learn how rewilding works on land, in rivers, and in the sea

    • First European Bison Release in Portugal, Rewilding Portugal, Greater Côa Valley

Explore inspiring examples grounded in real-life practice from across Europe

    • Isak Edström working on river restoration, Nordic Taiga.

Develop your own personal rewilding action plan

The personal rewilding plan is created at the end of the course, helping students transform their ideas and new-found knowledge into concrete steps forward. Guided by inspiring examples, it will help them define their focus and explore what they need to get started or take their rewilding ambitions to the next level. To help course graduates stay connected and continue building their skills, Rewilding Europe offers a range of useful tools and pathways.

    Let’s co-create a wilder Europe

Today, we stand at a turning point. Rewilding gives us a unique and exciting opportunity to ensure nature recovery delivers game-changing impact. An opportunity to rediscover and reconnect with wild nature to improve our own health and well-being.

Every day, more and more people across Europe are grasping this opportunity. Not just because nature is amazing, but because rewilding can help us solve so many of our most pressing challenges. All those involved with European rewilding are motivated by the conviction that giving nature the space and capacity to heal itself is the best way to simultaneously address climate change, enhance biodiversity, and deliver a sustainable and prosperous world for all.

Rewilding offers hope of a world where people can thrive alongside healthy, resilient nature – if we act together, now. This course is your invitation to join the burgeoning movement to rewild Europe. Sign up and get started today!
